Export of sawn timber, wood
and birch veneer

The needs of the Chinese market for sawnwood and timber annually increase by 3.8%. Thirteen years ago, China became Russia's main importer of roundwood, and since 2008 - the main importer of wood products. In 2014, the share of exports increased by 4.7% and amounted to 26.6 million cubic meters.
The main competitor of Russia for the export of forest products is Canada.

With what is the increased demand for raw materials

The country is developing rapidly, thanks to attracting foreign investment, intellectual resources and large-scale construction of production complexes.
The acute shortage in the production of sawmill production is explained by:

   - a ban on deforestation within the PRC;
   - the rapid rise of Chinese industry;
   - improving the overall standard of living and infrastructure development

Basically, wood is bought for furniture production, but other industries need wood. Only an annual production of 15 billion pairs of Chinese chopsticks takes a huge amount of raw materials.

Rapid growth entailed two interrelated circumstances:

  1. For active production requires a lot of raw materials - due to a shortage of raw materials base, China began to buy it in foreign markets.

  2. The living standard and employment of the population increased - there was the possibility of a huge market. All this affects On the growth of consumer ability, both individual residents of the PRC, and the whole country as a whole.

What you need Chinese buyers

China buys from Russia the following types of timber:

  • coniferous trees, processed according to GOSTs - fir, spruce, cedar, pine;

  • deciduous trees, processed - birch, alder, oak, maple, aspen, poplar, walnut, ash, beech.

   The greatest value is provided by sawn timber from coniferous trees of Siberia, which have undergone special treatment in winter. The resulting sawmill has a high density, excellent strength and quality.
Suitable for almost all types of lumber: timber, lining, tes, sleepers, formwork, board, bar.
For the production process, you need: unedged and edged boards, sawlogs, but the Chinese often purchase an unprocessed board.
   With equal willingness, they export waste from the wood processing industry: chips, chips and sawdust.

Birch veneer

Veneer is extracted from birch wood in the territory of most of Russia. Consumption of veneer in China has doubled.
Wood material is used:

Birch veneer before shipment

  • For covering interior doors;

  • In the production of plywood and carpentry;

  • At manufacturing of furniture, accessories, stock;

  • When creating a parquet and glued bent and bulky items;

  • For interior decoration;

  • For decorative household goods: baskets, basket and bread;

  • For turning products.

The Chinese prefer to handle wood independently, but the Russian veneer surpasses the quality of Chinese processing products. Demand for birch veneer will only grow with each year, as China begins to occupy a leading position in the market for wood panels, as well as joinery and various wooden structures used in construction.

Features of timber exports to China

Transportation of wood by sea

   Chinese buyers need raw materials, but they are especially cautious about the choice of potential suppliers. To conclude a successful contract with a Chinese company, you need to have established connections for the transportation of goods. In particular, schemes of convenient delivery across China should be worked out, experience of passage of customs across border is necessary.

Transportation of wood by sea

The quality of logistics directly depends on the speed and conditions of delivery. If woodworking products are delivered in conditions of high humidity and temperature, their color may change, which will lead to loss of quality of the goods and reduce its price. Organizing sales of sawn timber in China requires special training, experience, numerous Negotiations and financial costs. It is best to entrust this process to specialists.
